The Custom Medicines feature on SignatureRx gives clinics and prescribers greater flexibility in managing the prescribing process by offering multiple options for how medications can be selected and entered. This includes integration with standard formularies, the ability to create and display custom medicine lists, and the option to allow free-text entries.
Logged as the clinic admin or independent prescriber, click on your name on the top right of the page > select Custom Medicines:
The main dashboard below displays the custom medicines already added and the settings for the account on the right:
1. DM+D (Dictionary of Medicines and Devices):
This is the standard formulary used across the NHS and private healthcare settings. You can choose whether or not to display the DM+D list in your SignatureRx environment. Enabling this allows prescribers to select from a comprehensive and standardized database of licensed medicines and devices.
2. Custom Medicines:
With this option, you can choose to display a custom formulary specific to your clinic or organisation. This is ideal for commonly prescribed items that may not appear in DM+D or for streamlining workflow by presenting a tailored list of frequently used medications.
3. Free Text:
You can also choose to allow prescribers to manually enter medication details via free text. This is useful in unique cases where a medicine is not available in either the standard or custom formularies. However, enabling free text should be done with caution, as it bypasses structured data input.
To add new medicine, click on the "Add medicine" button and fill the information as follows:
There's also an option to bulk import a list of medicines by clicking on the "Import Medicine" button:
The system requires a CSV file with the mandatory fields of Medicine Name, VPPID and APPID:
These settings can be configured based on your clinic's prescribing needs and compliance preferences, giving you full control over how medicines are selected and prescribed through SignatureRx.
