How do I issue a prescription for a Controlled Drug?
Before you can issue controlled drug prescriptions, your clinic admin needs to complete the Controlled Drugs Compliance Form provided by the SignatureRx team. Once this is done, controlled drug prescribing will be switched on for your account.
Issuing a Controlled Drug prescription involves a few extra steps to meet legal requirements, but the process is simple to follow in SignatureRx.
A prescription is written and once all details are complete, the prescriber can choose one of the following actions:
Print FP10CD for patient
Print and send to pharmacy for Delivery
A secure PIN is always required before issuing.
What happens when I issue a prescription for a Controlled Drug?
There are two ways to issue a prescription for a Controlled Drug, either to print or to issue for delivery.
1. Print FP10CD for patient
Following PIN authorisation, a PDF FP10CD opens in a new browser tab for download or printing. The PDF includes all patient, prescriber, and clinic details in line with NHS formatting standards.
The printed prescription should be handed to the patient, who can present it at any pharmacy for dispensing.
2. Print and send to pharmacy for Delivery
The system will generate a PDF copy and send the prescription securely to Signature Pharmacy. Signature Pharmacy will await receipt of the original signed copy before dispensing, as per legislation.
The patient receives email updates once the prescription has been recieved and the dispensing process begins and they will continue to receive updates at each stage and can track progress via the Signature Pharmacy portal and a signature is required upon delivery.
All FP10CD prescription PDFs produced in SignatureRx comply with NHS printing and layout specifications, ensuring consistency and professional presentation.
