Custom Medicines Feature on SignatureRx

The Custom Medicines feature gives clinics and prescribers greater flexibility in selecting and managing medications. You can choose to use the standard DM+D formulary, build your own custom list, or enable free text entries, depending on your clinic’s needs.

Accessing Custom Medicines

To access this feature:
  1. Log in as a clinic admin or independent prescriber
  2. Click your name in the top right corner
  3. Select Custom Medicines
You will see:
  1. A dashboard listing existing custom medicines
  2. Customisation settings on the right side of the page

Medicine Selection Options

The Custom Medicines feature includes three main options you can enable or disable.

1. DM+D (Dictionary of Medicines and Devices)

DM+D is the standard NHS formulary used across both NHS and private healthcare.
By enabling DM+D, prescribers can select from a complete, structured list of licensed medicines and devices.
This is the most reliable option for accurate and standardised prescribing.

2. Custom Medicines

You can create your own clinic-specific formulary and choose whether to display it to your prescribers.
This is ideal for:
  1. Frequently prescribed items
  2. Medicines not included in DM+D
  3. Streamlining workflows by presenting a tailored list
Your custom formulary helps reduce time spent searching for common items.

3. Free Text

Free text entry allows prescribers to manually type medication names and details.
This is useful for:
  1. Rare medications
  2. Compounded items
  3. Special cases not found in formulary databases
Use this feature with caution, as it bypasses structured data input.

Adding New Medicines

To add a new custom medicine:
  1. Click Add Medicine
  2. Enter the required information in the form

Bulk Importing Custom Medicines

If you want to upload multiple medicines at once:
  1. Click Import Medicine
                                   2. Upload a CSV file containing the required fields:
  1. Medicine Name
  2. VPPID
  3. APPID

This is perfect for setting up a large clinic formulary quickly.

Configure Settings to Suit Your Clinic

You can tailor all these options based on your:
  1. Clinical workflow
  2. Prescribing preferences
  3. Compliance requirements
This gives your clinic full control over how medicines are selected and prescribed within SignatureRx.
