Duplicate Prescription Prevention | SignatureRx Dispensing Process Guide

Duplicate Prevention – How Prescriptions Are Marked as Dispensed

Duplicate Prevention – How Prescription Codes can only be used once.

This guide explains how duplicate dispensing is prevented in SignatureRx, and how prescriptions are marked as dispensed by pharmacies.

SignatureRx includes built-in safeguards to ensure that:

  • Prescriptions are only dispensed once
  • Duplicate use is prevented
  • Patient safety and compliance are maintained

How Duplicate Prevention Works

Each prescription issued in SignatureRx:

  • Has a unique Prescription ID
  • Can only be accessed and dispensed once
  • Is tracked in real time, with status updates

How Pharmacies Mark a Prescription as Dispensed

When a pharmacy processes a prescription:

  1. The pharmacy locates the prescription using:
    • Prescription ID
    • Patient date of birth
  2. The pharmacist:
    • Reviews the prescription
    • Prepares the medication
  3. Once ready, they click “Mark as Dispensed” in the system

What Happens After It Is Marked as Dispensed
  • The prescription status updates to Dispensed
  • It becomes locked in the system
  • The prescription cannot be reused or accessed by another pharmacy

Why This Is Important

This process ensures:

  • No duplicate dispensing
  • Accurate prescription tracking
  • Improved patient safety
  • Regulatory compliance

Important Notes
  • Once marked as dispensed, the prescription is finalised
  • Patients cannot collect the same prescription from another pharmacy
  • Always verify prescription statuses before issuing a replacement

Tips for Prescribers

  • Check prescription status via your SignatureRx portal before reissuing
  • Avoid issuing duplicates unless clinically necessary
  • Communicate clearly with patients about collection or delivery methods
