What If a Prescription Has Already Been Dispensed?

This guide explains what to do if a prescription appears as already dispensed in SignatureRx, and how to handle this situation safely.



What Does “Already Dispensed” Mean?

If a prescription shows as “Already dispensed”, it means:

  • The prescription has already been processed and completed in the system
  • It has been marked as dispensed by a pharmacy
  • It is no longer valid for dispensing again

What Should You Do?

Do NOT dispense the prescription

  • You must not dispense a prescription that is already marked as dispensed.

Confirm with the Patient

Ask the patient:

  • If they have already collected their medication
  • If they have visited another pharmacy

Check for Errors

If the patient believes this is incorrect:

  • Confirm the Prescription ID and date of birth
  • Ensure the correct prescription is being searched

Why This Happens

Common reasons include:

  • The prescription has already been dispensed at another pharmacy
  • It has been marked as dispensed for delivery via Signature Pharmacy
  • Marked as dispensed by mistake by a different pharmacy

Important Notes

  • Once marked as dispensed, it cannot be reused or dispensed again
  • This prevents duplicate dispensing and ensures patient safety
